Root canal treatment addresses inflamed or infected tissue inside a tooth. It may be needed after deep decay, trauma or other damage, but pain alone does not establish the diagnosis. Treatment aims to clean, disinfect and seal the canals so the tooth can be preserved when possible. The final restoration is part of the care plan.
